Helping to build immunity to anxiety and depression: CrossTalk comes to Washington, D.C. in 2018

Students who practice self care make stronger, more effective professionals.

Our panel of deans from American University School of Education, Georgetown School of Law, the George Washington University School of Medicine, and others will discuss their views on the importance of teaching our next generation of lawyers, physicians, academics, and business leaders how to develop resilience and habits of self-care to ward off demoralization, depression, and anxiety -- key factors commonly cited in professional burn out.

A guest speaker and hiring managers from area law firms, advocacy organizations, and other professional firms are still to be determined. Check back for updates.

CrossTalk FAQs:

What will CrossTalk do? As an intra-professional wellness summit, CrossTalk will venture to the crossroads of student formation and professional development to explore the dissonance between how students want to live their lives and what they perceive is expected of them as professionals.

What's at issue? What role do graduate programs have in preventing increasing rates of professional burn out, depression, anxiety, addiction, suicide, and overall lack of professional fulfillment?

What's at stake? A generation of competent, happy, eager medical, legal, academic, business professionals; currently, too many enter the workforce to find it is not only unfulfilling, but destabilizing: suicide, addiction, depression, and anxiety are on the rise across these fields.

Who should attend CrossTalk? College faculty, administrators, student government leaders, job placement officers, hiring managers.

CrossTalk will be held at the Arts Club of Washington on April 4, 2018 from 9:30 until 2PM. Coffee and light refreshments will be served during the reception, with a sit-down lunch to follow the first panel.
